Bored..

As a parent, I let my kids get away with a lot of things, I probably shouldn't. I have read numerous Christian parenting books, that tell you all of the things you are supposed to do and not supposed to do. They are always great in theory, but half the time I am just too tired to follow through.

One of the things that I do not let my kids get away with, is saying that they are bored. I think our society is just about entertained to death. Convenience is killing us in more ways than one. Families used to have to work from sun up to sun down, to just provide food and heat for their families. I do enjoy convenience just as much as the next person, but the consequences are a little scary.

One of the princesses forgot my stance on the "I'm bored" phrase. After my little speech, I quickly found something to help with her boredom. And with us being a family, and trying to learn to work as a team, ALL of the princesses got in on this action.

I had a bookshelf that I wanted moved from downstairs to the upstairs. A full bookshelf. One that was loaded with books. I was not looking forward to restocking ALL of those books. That's where the girls stepped in ;-)

They had to put them together by author and style of the book. This little activity only took about 2 hours!! I don't think I will be hearing the "I'm bored" phrase for a little while.

  1. I don't know what to say when people(adults) tell me they are bored. It is a very unfamiliar concept in this house. Though I have to admit that I did udder those words while we are away for the holidays. After a day of doing very little but being entertained I am ready to do something productive.

  2. I agree Stephanie...I am hoping to prevent my girls from growing up to become one of "those" adults. Life should be about goals and dreams.....and in my little speech I reminded them that they should be thankful for boredom, for it means that no one is asking them to do something ;-)
