Surviving the next Sixty days....

When I asked Sweet Man his New Year's resolution, he responded with a smile and the phrase "To survive!" I had to laugh at his optimism for the upcoming year. We both keep our plates pretty full when it comes to chores and responsibilities, and true to form, we have added yet another one. For Sixty days, starting tonight, we will be adding night shift to our lengthy to do list. Sweet Man will be the graphic artist and computer dude for the Senate, during Legislature, and I will be one of the proof readers. Once again we will get to work as a team, only we get the added bonus of getting paid this time! :-) I have the desire to pack this little family up and head to some warm country with my earnings, but in truth it will go to pay off our lovely little credit cards. Cards that were used to purchase things that have since been lost, forgotten, broken, or perhaps given away.

In regards to this new responsibility, I was reminded of a phrase that my mom had taught me growing up, "Hope for the best, but expect the worst." You see, our little princesses will be joining us on this sixty day journey, and even though I am excited about the prospect of having a paying job, I am not underestimating how hard it will actually be. I have been preparing though. I stocked up on these lovely items...
The last thing I want to do after working all night, is come home to dirty dishes.

I have filled the snack basket with lots of processed and packaged food. Even though it's not my normal take on kid food, it will have to do....for sixty days. Time consuming homemade treats will have to be put on hold for just awhile....this momma is going to have to sleep sometime.
Our bread will probably go from this...
To this...
And those sweet little princesses...
They will be camping out at the office in sleeping bags. They are going to have their schedules totally confused, but through it all, they will have a little adventure that they can remember when they are grown. I can remember doing the same thing when I was their age, sleeping at the office while mom and dad worked to make a better life for us. It helped instill in me a great work ethic, and I am hoping the same for them. So I guess my New Year's Resolution will be the same as Sweet Man's, to survive, but I have been preparing to make sure that the next sixty days is something that can be described as the best, and not the worst.

  1. I'm sure it will be a challenging time and there will be hurdles, but, I am also sure that your girls are learning valuable lessons that will last a lifetime.

  5. Oh..I forgot to answer your question...yes it is 60 days straight...and we just get sleep when we can. Some nights we don't have to work very long and yet there were some nights in years past that I didn't get off work until 7a.m. I am sure the girls will watch more tv than we are used too...but hey, you do what ya have to do, right?

  7. I am looking forward to tonight as well Mom. I tried to sleep in, but alas the rooster and the cell phone didn't cooperate! The last people that had Mike's cell number had subscribed to the school closing call, and we were woke up bright and early to learn that other kids didn't have school...LOL...oh well, I got my run and reading time in! :-)

  8. I will be praying for all of you for strength, endurance, patience and the ability to get some much needed rest! The girls will survive some processed foods and will know that their parents love them dearly. You have wonderful parents and in turn you and your hubby are wonderful parents as well :)
